As I sat in front of one of our three computers this morning I used our high speed internet to access our online checking account. I thought about how hard it has become to make ends meet. While online I was also watching the morning news on our new big screen TV hooked to satellite. The news was reporting on something about another family loosing their home from a fire when they tried to heat the house with a portable heater. Apparently they couldn’t afford to keep the gas on. I can relate.
As I drove my F-150 to my seventy thousand dollar a year job I noticed a small group of people at the bus stop standing in the winter cold waiting for the bus so they could begin their day. They sure did look cold. I wondered if the new F-150′s got better gas mileage than the 15 mpg I was getting now.
Later that day on my way to lunch I spotted that same pan handler at the freeway ramp begging for change. How irritating? I make it a point not to make eye contact. I wonder if Taco Bell will have a line today. I could go to Arby’s but they’re so expensive. I’ve been avoiding Arby’s lately anyway. Ever since that girl at the counter told me she works two jobs, has two kids and lives with her mom and her car broke down. Too much information for me. I do love those Beef ‘n Cheddar Sandwiches though.
As I clocked out from work I felt frustrated that by the time I get home and eat dinner I wont have time to watch that Netflix movie that just arrived. My favorite shows are on tonight. Perhaps I’ll record them on our DVR and watch the movie anyway. I wonder what the rich people watch?
