One of President Barack Obama’s biggest campaign promises was governmental accountability and transparency.
Why did it take court cases, appeal after appeal and WikiLeaks to expose blatant government secrecy of the bank bailouts?

There has been a lot of chatter on Facebook lately about changing your profile picture to a cartoon. The reasoning behind it seems to change daily and since Facebook is filled with sheeple there are cartoon characters all over the website.
It probably comes as a huge surprise to those that know me but I have an opinion on the cartoon issue. I think you should use whatever pic, image or cartoon you want on your profile. I know I’m an ass but my problem starts when everything has to be some kind of pathetic feel-good cause (See the video in the top right column).
Putting a cartoon on our profiles isn’t preventing a single child from being abused or stopping cancer or changing the world. It’s just a lame ass way for people to feel good about themselves.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Want to help a cause? Are you passionate about something? Then get the hell off Facebook and do something real. Donate money or time. Volunteer. Adopt a child. Become a foster parent. Be a big brother or sister. Even just becoming a decent member of your neighborhood and being a positive influence on the children deserves respect in a big way; at least in my book.
If you can’t find something REAL to do, please shut the hell up. Stop trying to fool everyone into thinking you’re a great person because you copy and paste every feel good cause to your online social friends. It’s just pathetic and a disservice to those that are truly making a difference.
And please don’t insult our intelligence by some lame ass excuse like ‘awareness‘. That’s bull shit. It’s no different than bitching about every little problem with your friends at the back of the room. Step up and make a difference or YOU are just part of the problem.
Don’t even get me started on the awareness ribbons.
I’m all for freedom and rights but flying on commercial aircraft is not a right but surviving that trip is. <- (Soon to be a famous quote).
If someone can, AND WILL, hide a micro-bomb capable of bringing down the airplane, I want the TSA to find it.
If that means getting felt up, so be it. BTW, that’s only for those that refuse the full body scanners.
The problem isn’t the rules; the problem is the TSA, along with every other government agency, is full of idiots that let their authority go to their heads. From the local cop to the President, our checks and balance system is broken.
There needs to be an effective system to keep everyone in check. Anyone abusing the system should be caught and dismissed immediately and permanently. No supervisor protection, no political clout and no union – just fired. PERIOD!
The right-wing fervor of Bad-Mouthing Progressives and Liberals in the past few years has in my opinion surpassed the height of the Regan era bashing of Liberals. Just a few minutes on Fox News channel would lead you to believe that Liberals and Progressives are demonizing our way of life, Socializing and Stalinizing and eroding our Constitution. Well let’s see what Progressive really is.
A Short List of Progressive Ideologies
The Renaissance:
Starting around the 14th Century, a time of advancing culture, art and an emphasis on higher learning.
Age of Enlightenment:
Developing simultaneously in France, Great Britain, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Portugal and the American colonies, the movement was buoyed by Atlantic Revolutions, especially the success of the American Revolution.
The American Revolution:
Was the result of a series of social, political, and intellectual transformations in early American society and government, collectively referred to as the American Enlightenment [This gave us the Constitution.]
American Progressive movement:
First Reform Era occurred in the years before the Civil War and included efforts of social activists to reform working conditions and humanizes the treatment of mentally ill people and prisoners.
Next came:
The Lincoln Reconstruction Plan
The Initial Congressional Plan
The Andrew Johnson Reconstruction Plan
The Radical Republican Reconstruction Plan (seems the Right Wing owes us a favor)
Movements like:
The reconstruction Movement
The Temperance movement
The Farm Movement
The success of progressivism owed much to publicity generated by the muckrakers, writers who detailed the horrors of poverty, urban slums, dangerous factory conditions, and child labor, among a host of other ills.
The Interstate Commerce act
Sherman Anti Trust act
Conservation act
Railroad Legislation
Food and Drug Laws
The progressive spirit also was evident in new amendments added to the Constitution, which provided for a new means to elect senators, protect society through prohibition and extend suffrage to women.
The Roosevelt Progressives (Bull Moose Party) of 1912
The La Follette Progressives of the 1920s
The Henry Wallace Progressives of the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Maybe we should just discount all this and hope that we can pull ourselves out of the Dark Ages whimpering at the feet of Dictators and Theocratic Dogmatic Totalitarians.

When Bill Clinton was president, I was a card carrying, Rush Limbaugh listening staunch republican. I was totally against the Democrats and couldn’t stand Bill Clinton. I was blinded by my political choice and brainwashed by idiot right-wing radio show hosts. Thankfully, I have since decided to start thinking for myself and stop being just another sheep for a particular political party.
To his credit, former President of the United States Bill Clinton, who could live a life of ease and luxury, is hard at work helping important global causes and solving problems so big many of us can not even comprehend. President Clinton used his ‘star power‘ and political leverage to get things accomplished for the people rather than himself. Several of Clinton’s organizations include:
The Clinton Global Initiative has helped over 220 million people in the last five years with 57 Billion dollars of commitments. CGI’s four Global Challenge areas are:
We love to criticize our political leaders for their inadequacies but today I decided to recognize great achievement. Personally I didn’t care for Bill Clinton as the President but as a former President he kicks ass!
I spent a little time today watching the United Nations General Assembly with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. I find it very disturbing that he seems to be implying that democracy is the cause of strife and poverty in the world when it was the enlightenment and democracy that promoted the majority of the world’s greatest revelations. This while implying that a totalitarian oppressive religious regime will be a greater asset in today’s society. (Let’s not forget the 13 year old girl that was stoned to death 2 years ago) Then leaps into the idea that the west developed nuclear power before the bomb to somehow justify his attempt to obtain nuclear power. As I recall from history it was the other way around. Frankly the area that he lives in would lend itself better to wind and solar power anyway. (Go green man) Well, then he goes right into the old tale of the US involvement in 9/11 that somehow we conspired to allow it to happen. Mr. Ahmadinejad you need to stop watching youtube and start watching more porn it is better for the nerves.
In celebration of Labor Day [The History of Labor Day], I thought a discussion on labor unions was in order.
Labor Unions have a long and interesting history. They still play a huge role in American labor and they are here to stay.
Union reputation varies and opinions are very strong for both the pro-union and anti-union camps. I’ll paste one of each below and then would love to hear your opinion.
Slavenomore from the Truckingboards Truck Driver Forums says,
“If GM did not have union workers and they ended up broke as they were..Do you think that the Gov’t would have helped them stay open and help them workers to keep their jobs?
Other things I’d say without links to back it up…
I would think the unions are the reason for weekends (and most probably a lot of other holidays also)
And vacation time paid.
And paid sick time
And paid personal days
Company supplied retirement plans
Company supplied health care/insuranceI’ve worked at nonunion places which have had some of the above..And some probably have none of the above.
Maybe they always gave that stuff to the educated or management but I doubt that a lot of companies gave them to laborers before the unions were strong. I personally think a lot of bennies and pay rates are given to nonunion just to keep their people happy enough to not want us [Unions]…in other words, to keep us [Unions] out.
and…
Sheryl from The Internet Marketers Guild and about a million other websites says,
“I’m trying to think of something nice to say about any Union workers I have had to deal with…..*24 hours pass*. I am still trying to come up with something nice…..
Oh, I know. Union workers ALWAYS know when it’s break time. They also know exactly what is in their job description *Calling 911 if you cut your arm off is not likely in their job description and they will need to call their rep to see if a vote can be conducted at the next meeting to allow for 911 calls*.
Sorry that is the best I can do off the top of my head.Do you know which shovel belongs to a Government employee?
The one with the flattened tip from hours of a fat a$$ leaning on it!“
Your thoughts? Pro Union or Anti-Union? What do you see for the future of labor unions? Are unions keeping big business at bay? The Government? Your opinion matters here so Just Say It!
